PLE Kicks Off in Mbarara Under Tight Security

By Aggrey Twesigye

The 2025 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) have commenced in Mbarara District and Mbarara City amid tight security deployment.

According to Kellen Ayebazibwe, the Mbarara District Inspector of Schools, a total of 3,517 candidates are sitting for the exams at 97 examination centres across the district.

In Mbarara City, the Senior Inspector of Schools, Annet Bato Ntimba, revealed that 6,252 candidates are writing their papers at 123 examination centres.

However, tension arose at the Mbarara City examination distribution centre when UNEB officials, led by the City UNEB Monitor Dr. Charles Oundo, blocked journalists from accessing the venue and taking photographs.

Dr. Oundo reportedly ordered the arrest of journalists who attempted to capture images during the distribution exercise, which was conducted under heavy security to ensure the integrity of the examinations.
