The Electoral Commission (EC) in Kitagwenda District has officially nominated nine candidates to contest for various parliamentary seats ahead of the 2026 General Elections.

The nominations include contenders for both the Kitagwenda County parliamentary seat and the District Woman Member of Parliament position.

Francis Kagoro, the Kitagwenda District Election Administrator, said the two-day nomination exercise was conducted peacefully and successfully at the district EC offices.

In the Kitagwenda County parliamentary race, NRM flag bearer Robert Mugabe will face stiff competition from six independent candidates, among them incumbent Joseph Nulu Byamukama and Agaba Abbas Mugisha, among others.

The District Woman MP race has attracted only two contenders – NRM’s Dorothy Nyakato Nzibonera and Grace Ninsiima, who is seeking election as an independent candidate.

The EC commended both aspirants and their supporters for maintaining calm throughout the nomination process. The Commission further reminded candidates to adhere to electoral guidelines to ensure a peaceful, free, and fair election.
