Mbarara , January 17, 2025 — Police have heavily deployed at the Mbarara City Council offices in response to a planned demonstration by a group of youth demanding accountability for funds used in the recently completed rehabilitation of Katete Bridge.
The protesters are calling for transparency and thorough investigations into alleged irregularities in the management of street parking, recruitment processes, and the awarding of city council tenders.
Authorities have maintained a strong security presence to prevent possible unrest, though the situation remains calm.City officials have not yet issued a statement addressing the youth’s demands.
