Kasese District, Uganda — The Kasese District has reported a concerning surge in Tuberculosis (TB) infections, with at least 1,090 cases recorded in 2024. The alarming figures were revealed this afternoon by the District Tuberculosis and Leprosy Supervisor, Mr. Surgeon Kisomerya, during a press briefing in Kasese town.
Mr. Kisomerya identified Kasese Municipality, Katwe – Kabatoro Town Council, Kitswamba, and Bwesumbu sub-counties as the most affected areas within the district. Expressing his deep concern, he noted the accelerating rate of infections, emphasizing that men are the most impacted demographic.
In response to the escalating situation, Mr. Kisomerya disclosed that the district health authorities have formally requested immediate intervention from the Ministry of Health to help curb the spread of TB. “The rising number of cases is alarming, and we need swift action to prevent further transmission,” he stated.
Supporting the call for urgent measures, Mr. Yokoramu Bwambale Bakalyaghe, Senior Clinical Officer at Hima Government Health Center III and Assistant District Tuberculosis Supervisor, highlighted the importance of early diagnosis and preventive strategies. He urged residents to seek medical attention promptly to manage and contain the disease.
Additionally, Ms. Roset Musoki, a Technical Specialist on Tuberculosis from Baylor Uganda, revealed that due to the rising trend of infections, Baylor Uganda has partnered with the district health department. This collaboration has led to the initiation of Community Mobile Tuberculosis Clinic campaigns aimed at providing accessible testing and treatment services to the local population.
Health officials continue to appeal to the community to participate in these initiatives, practice good hygiene, and adhere to medical advice to combat the spread of Tuberculosis in Kasese District.
