At least 32 pupils failed to sit for the 2025 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) in Mbarara District, while 19 candidates were ungraded, according to results released by the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) last Friday.
Of the 3,485 candidates who registered for the examinations, 1,051 passed in Division One, 2,176 obtained Division Two, 185 were placed in Division Three, and 54 attained Division Four. The number of ungraded candidates dropped significantly from 48 in 2024 to 19 this year.
Overall, Mbarara District posted a strong performance, registering a 30.5 percent improvement. The district ranked second nationally, sixth among municipalities and cities, and fifth among districts with the highest numbers of Division One and Division Two passes.
While handing over the results to head teachers at Kamukuzi District Council Hall on Tuesday, District Chairperson Didas Tabaro commended schools for the improved performance. He announced that the district would reward the four best-performing primary schools with UGX 10 million in recognition of their achievement.
The District Inspector of Schools, Kellen Ayebazibwe Kabeho, attributed the absence of some pupils from the examinations to relocation and socioeconomic challenges, including poverty.
