Police in the Rwizi region have arrested 290 individuals over the festive season, according to SP Samson Kasasira, the regional police spokesperson. The detainees include 266 men, 17 women, and seven male juveniles.
Kasasira revealed that the region recorded four murder cases, one incident of aggravated defilement, and one kidnapping case during this period. All these incidents are currently under investigation.
Speaking on the arrests, Kasasira noted that most suspects were apprehended before December 31. “Case files for all suspects will be forwarded to the state attorney for review and appropriate legal action,” he confirmed.
Looking ahead, Kasasira emphasized the police’s dedication to bolstering community policing efforts in 2025. He highlighted plans to improve security measures and foster stronger collaboration between law enforcement and residents to create a safer environment.
The arrests and incidents underline the challenges faced by authorities during the holiday period and the ongoing efforts to maintain law and order in the region.
