12 Families Left Homeless After Heavy Downpour in Kasese’s Kahokya Sub-county

Story by Kule Xavier Lynus

At least 12 families in Kahokya Sub-county, Busongora County South, Kasese district, have been left homeless following a heavy downpour and a powerful windstorm that struck the area.

The storm, which began at 6:00 pm last evening, caused extensive damage, destroying 12 homes and devastating banana plantations.

Mr. Nyesio Bwambale Byamutima, the Kahokya Sub-county Chairperson, reported that four houses collapsed in Murambi village, while eight others were destroyed in Rwabihungu Parish.

He expressed concern about the food shortages the affected families are likely to face and called on well-wishers to provide relief items to help the victims.

Bwambale also attributed the devastation to a lack of sufficient tree cover in the area and urged residents to embrace tree planting as a means of creating natural windbreakers.

In a related incident, the storm also caused significant damage to the Local Council I offices in Bukumbia village, Nyakabingo sub-county.

Mr. Milton Mutoma, the Sub-county Councilor for Bukumbia Parish, reported that the roof of the office building was blown off, destroying important documents and office supplies.
