Tayebwa Opens UGX 1.3 Billion Church Built in Memory of Rev. Sserwadda

By Aggrey Twesigye

The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, on Sunday officiated at the opening of a UGX 1.3 billion church constructed in Mbarara District in memory of the late Rev. Eliasaph Sserwadda, father of Col. Edith Nakalema, the Head of the State House Investors Protection Unit.

The All Saints Kanyeganyegye Church of Uganda, located in Ankole Diocese, was built by Col. Edith Nakalema and her family through the Rev. Eliasaph Sserwadda Foundation.

The modern church, which is currently at roofing level, has a seating capacity of about 1,000 people.

Speaking during the thanksgiving service, Tayebwa commended Col. Nakalema and her family for their generosity and commitment to supporting the work of God. He cautioned Ugandans against criticizing individuals who choose to invest their resources in building churches instead of schools or hospitals, noting that such contributions should be appreciated rather than condemned.

In her remarks, Col. Nakalema paid tribute to her late father, who passed away last year, describing him as a devoted family man who valued education and worked tirelessly to ensure his children were educated. She also expressed gratitude to President Yoweri Museveni for mentoring her and believing in her throughout her career.

The service attracted several high-profile dignitaries, including the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev. Dr. Steven Kazimba Mugalu, who was the main celebrant. Others in attendance included Emeritus Archbishop Henry Luke Orombi, Minister of Works and Transport Gen. Katumba Wamala, former Inspector General of Police Gen. Kale Kayihura, URA Commissioner General John Musinguzi Rujooki, and Bank of Uganda Deputy Governor Prof. Augustus Nuwagaba, among others.
