President Museveni has appointed Hon. Canon Mathew Rukikaire as the new Chancellor of Kabale University.
The appointment, contained in an Instrument of Appointment dated October 17, 2025, was made under Section 30(1) of the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act, following a recommendation from the Kabale University Council.
Canon Rukikaire will serve a four-year term, effective from the date he assumes office.
In the instrument, President Museveni wrote:
“I, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, do hereby appoint Hon. Canon Mathew Rukikaire as Chancellor, Kabale University, for a period of four years with effect from the date of assumption of duty.”
Canon Rukikaire replaces the outgoing Chancellor and is expected to provide strategic leadership toward enhancing the university’s academic excellence, research output and community impact.
As Chancellor, he will serve as the ceremonial head of the institution and officiate at major academic functions, including graduation ceremonies.
His appointment comes just days before Kabale University’s graduation ceremony slated for October 31, 2025.
