Panic in Kasese District as Landslides Destroy Crops, Displace Residents

By Obed Kithende

Panic has gripped residents of Kapoko and Misika villages in Rukoki Sub-county, Busongora South, Kasese District, after landslides hit the area following heavy rains.

No loss of life has been reported so far, but food and cash crops, including coffee, bananas, cassava, and beans, have been destroyed, leaving farmers counting heavy losses.

Kasese District Secretary for Disaster Preparedness, Joseph Isingoma, and the District Principal Assistant Secretary in the CAO’s office, Mustafa Kikusa, confirmed they are on the ground documenting affected families and farmers.

The officials have advised residents in disaster-prone areas to relocate to safer places and designated evacuation centers, warning that more rains are expected.

District authorities are currently assessing the extent of the damage and will submit a report to the Office of the Prime Minister for possible relief assistance.
