Police in Ntungamo District have arrested one suspect in connection with a burglary and theft that occurred on 20 February 2026 at around 11:00 PM in Sofia Town, Mirama Town Council.
The incident happened at the residence of Kabagambe Isaak, a businessman operating at the Mirama border. According to police, the complainant returned home at about 11:00 PM and opened his door normally, only to find the house in disarray. Upon entering his bedroom, he encountered three suspects two standing beside the bed and one hiding underneath it.
The victim raised an alarm and ran outside screaming for help. The suspects fled through a hole they had dug behind the house. Community members responded but were unable to apprehend them.
Kabagambe immediately reported the matter at Mirama Police Station and requested support from the Police Canine Unit at Ntungamo Central Police Station.

Police Response and Arrest
A team of canine officers and investigators promptly visited the scene. The police sniffer dog Yudah was introduced to scent from the bed and successfully picked up a trail from the hole behind the house. The dog tracked the scent for approximately 700 metres, leading officers to the home of a suspect identified as Itmana Denis, who was arrested.
Another suspect, identified only as Junior, is currently on the run.

A search conducted at Itmana Denis’ residence led to the recovery of a hammer and an iron bar. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to his involvement in the burglary.
Police say Itmana Denis remains in custody as investigations continue, while efforts are ongoing to trace and arrest the second suspect.
