Mbarara leaders and environmentalists have launched the International Water and Environment Week to promote environmental conservation and ensure a sustainable water supply.

Mbarara City Resident Commissioner Catherine Kamwiine underscored the need to protect the River Rwizi catchment area, the main water source for Mbarara City and the wider Ankole sub-region. She also stressed the importance of preserving the city’s wetlands, highlighting their role in maintaining ecological balance and securing water resources for future generations.

The week-long initiative will focus on raising awareness and actively engaging local communities in conservation efforts.
