
Assy Abireebe Tumwesigire has officially handed over office to his successor, Justine Barekye, after three years of service as Mbarara City Town Clerk. Abireebe, who was posted to Mbarara in 2022, has been transferred to Mbale City, while Barekye joins from Soroti City, where she served in the same capacity for six months.
During the handover ceremony, Abireebe commended the city’s political and technical teams for their cooperation, which he credited for the city’s development. He highlighted significant improvements in local revenue collection, which increased from Shs 3 billion in the 2020/2021 financial year to Shs 7 billion in 2023/2024.
In her remarks, Barekye urged city leaders and the technical team to work together for the continued progress of Mbarara City. Mayor Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi praised Abireebe for his contributions and advised the incoming town clerk to expedite service delivery in the rapidly growing city.
Akim Twinamatsiko, the Assistant Resident City Commissioner for Mbarara City South, assured Barekye of the government’s support and pledged to work closely with her to drive the city’s development forward.
