Residents of Kakabano and Piida villages in Upper Bugongi Ward, Northern Division of Kabale Municipality, were left in shock and grief on Wednesday morning after the lifeless body of a well-known local cobbler was discovered by the roadside.

The deceased, identified only as Nsenga, a man in his 40s and resident of Piida village, was found at approximately 8:00 a.m. along the road connecting Kakabano to Piida.

His body bore deep head wounds, indicating he had been brutally attacked and murdered by unknown assailants.

This marks the second murder in the area within a month, sparking alarm among locals who fear a deteriorating security situation.

Nsenga, known for his humble character and cobbling business located opposite Ebenezer Christian Nursery and Primary School, was a familiar face in the community.

His violent death has left residents stunned and calling for immediate action.

Community members are urging authorities to intensify security efforts and revive night patrols, particularly in response to recent reports of criminals loitering and ambushing residents after dark.

Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, Elly Maate, confirmed the incident.

A team from Kabale Central Police Station, including homicide detectives, Scenes of Crime Officers (SOCOs), and a K-9 unit, was dispatched to investigate. Despite deploying a police dog to help track down the assailants, efforts were hampered by rainy weather conditions.

The body was transported to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.

Maate appealed to the public to provide any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects, assuring that all leads will be pursued to bring those responsible to justice.
