A group of women trading in perishable goods at Kitunzi Market in Rwebikoona town staged a peaceful protest on Wednesday morning, accusing Mbarara City enforcement officers of unfairly confiscating their merchandise.
The vendors allege that their goods were seized after they set up stalls on Tuesday morning, a day before the official market day, which is scheduled for Wednesday.
In response to the protest, Mbarara City Council publicist Amina Naluyima clarified that the council had recently passed a resolution enforcing strict market operations on designated days only.
The decision is intended to regulate market activities and prevent vendors from operating on unauthorized days..
