Residents of Kengyeya Parish in Buhanda Sub County are celebrating a significant milestone after gaining access to safe and clean water, ending nearly two decades of reliance on contaminated sources.

The achievement follows the commissioning of a borehole, made possible through lobbying efforts by district political leader Joan Asiimwe.

For years, locals collected water from an open well shared with animals, increasing the risk of waterborne diseases.

In addition to the Kengyeya borehole, a similar one was inaugurated in Nyanga II, Kitonzi Parish, Mahyoro Sub County, under the same initiative. Residents now anticipate improved hygiene and fewer disease outbreaks.

During the commissioning ceremony on Monday, Fred Kato, the male councillor representing Kitonzi Parish, urged the community to take responsibility for maintaining the boreholes to ensure long-term benefits.

The provision of clean water is expected to significantly enhance the well-being of the residents and contribute to better public health in the region.
