Kisoro District Wealth Creation Chairperson, Colonel Deo Kaita, has expressed strong frustration over the persistent negligence of veterinary and agricultural officers, accusing them of failing to monitor and supervise government-backed livestock and agricultural projects.
Speaking during a Parish Development Model (PDM) sensitization meeting held at the Southern Division headquarters, Col. Kaita revealed that over 2,000 cows distributed across the district under government programs have been sold off by beneficiaries, instead of being used to enhance community livelihoods as intended.
He blamed the situation on the failure of technical officers to effectively follow up and ensure proper implementation, saying their laxity is sabotaging government efforts to eradicate poverty through agriculture.
The meeting was attended by Assistant Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Hagumimana Vallence, sub-county veterinary officers, and other key stakeholders.
After the session, the delegation visited the Kisoro Central Division Cooperative Society, where the group held its first official meeting in the Mayor’s Garden. During the event, Daudline was re-elected as Chairperson of the Cooperative Society for another term.
Col. Kaita emphasized the importance of citizen participation in government empowerment initiatives such as the PDM, Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP), and Emyooga.
He acknowledged that while progress is being made, persistent challenges—such as loan defaulting, poor road infrastructure, limited network coverage, and underfunding—remain major obstacles.
He also noted that Kisoro’s rapidly growing population continues to put pressure on already strained public services and resources.
Assistant RDC Hagumimana Vallence echoed these concerns, calling on citizens to reject corruption and foster a proactive attitude.
He encouraged residents to plan wisely, work diligently, and avoid dependency on handouts, if sustainable community development is to be realized.
In her remarks, Daudline, the re-elected Chairperson of the Cooperative Society, called on more community members to join the cooperative.
