Justice Lawrence Tweyanze has issued a stern warning to unqualified individuals masquerading as advocates in the High Court and subordinate courts.
Speaking last week, Justice Tweyanze expressed concern over the increasing number of so-called “bush lawyers” in Kasese who loiter around court premises and make false promises to litigants, a practice he said undermines the delivery of justice.
He noted that these unauthorized individuals often exploit vulnerable citizens by offering fake legal advice and extorting money from them.
The judge advised such individuals to immediately desist from the practice and instead pursue formal legal training to qualify as advocates of the High Court, warning that failure to comply would attract legal consequences.
Geoffrey Chan Masereka of Masereka Chan & Co. Advocates supported the call, emphasizing the need to eliminate unqualified practitioners from the legal profession in Kasese.
