As Christians across Uganda gathered to observe Ash Wednesday, Rev. Fr. Francis Kadiidi, the curate at Uganda Martyrs Catholic Parish, used the occasion to speak out against delayed justice and to urge national reconciliation at the start of the Lenten season.

Delivering his homily on Wednesday morning, Rev. Fr. Kadiidi called on worshippers to embrace peace, forgiveness, and unity during the 40-day period of prayer and reflection leading to Easter.

The priest condemned what he described as injustices within the judicial system, citing the prolonged detention of many citizens on remand without trial, which he said amounts to unfair and inhumane treatment.

He urged authorities to demonstrate compassion and goodwill by releasing individuals who have been unjustly held.

Rev. Fr. Kadiidi further encouraged believers to translate their faith into action, suggesting that supporting efforts to secure freedom for political detainees could serve as a meaningful personal sacrifice during the Lenten season.
