The government has announced plans to increase annual funding under the Parish Development Model (PDM) from UGX 100 million to at least UGX 200 million for larger parishes to enable more households to benefit from the poverty alleviation programme.
Finance Minister Henry Musasizi Ariganyira made the announcement during a thanksgiving ceremony for Rwampara East MP Charles Ngabirano at Mwizi Primary School in Rwampara District.
He said the current allocation is no longer sufficient for densely populated parishes, despite the programme’s progress since its launch in 2022.
Musasizi said the additional funding will help expand access to PDM loans as the government continues its efforts to move subsistence households into the money economy.
MP Charles Ngabirano welcomed the proposal and said the government has also committed to extending clean water and electricity to underserved parts of Rwampara District during the current financial year.
