A new contract farming programme aimed at linking Ugandan farmers to guaranteed markets and promoting demand-driven production has been launched to help reduce losses caused by unpredictable markets and unstable prices.
The ABC Contract Modern Farming Model will enable farmers to produce based on confirmed market demand, while improving access to quality inputs, irrigation, mechanisation, extension services, affordable financing, and market information.
Officials say the initiative is expected to boost productivity, increase household incomes, and strengthen Uganda’s competitiveness in regional and international markets.
The programme was launched by the Uncle-Tusiime Development Foundation during a two-day media retreat in Kampala.
National Project Coordinator Valentine Muhereza alias Kachaina said the model will help farmers know what to grow, how much to produce, and where their produce will be sold before planting.
