Former Mbarara District Chief Administrative Officer David Muhwezi has officially handed over office to his successor, Patrick Nuwabigaba, after serving the district for three years.
The handover took place at the District Rukiiko Hall on Kamukuzi Hill, where Muhwezi transferred office keys, the official stamp, vehicle keys and district land titles.
Nuwabigaba assumes office after serving as CAO of Sheema District, while Muhwezi has been transferred to Ntoroko District in the same capacity.
In his farewell remarks, Muhwezi said inadequate local revenue continues to hamper service delivery, noting that several newly created town councils have not yet received funding for road development.
He also revealed that the district has 970 staff out of an approved establishment of 1,216, leaving 246vacancies, particularly in the education and health sectors. He urged his successor to prioritize recruitment and follow up on funding for local governments.
Nuwabigaba pledged to work closely with district staff to improve service delivery, while Bukiiro Town Council Mayor David Kitengye appealed for induction training for newly elected councillors, town council leaders and sub-county chairpersons to strengthen local governance.
