Kashare Councillors Demand RDC Apology Over Livestock Theft Allegations

Mbarara Resident District Commissioner Nicholas Nuwagiira

By Aggrey Twesigye

Councillors from Kashare Sub-county in Mbarara District have called on Resident District Commissioner Nicholas Nuwagiira to publicly apologize to Sub-county Chairperson Fred Mwesigye over allegations linking him to livestock theft.

The demand was made by councillors led by Ronald Mwesigwa, the councillor for Mitoozo Parish and Secretary for Social Services, who accused the RDC of tarnishing their chairperson’s reputation without evidence.

The controversy stems from remarks made by Nuwagiira during the launch of the Rubindi–Kashare Road project in Ncuune Parish, where he reportedly accused Mwesigye of being behind increasing cases of livestock theft in Kashare and surrounding areas.

Mwesigye has strongly denied the allegations, insisting he has no connection to the reported thefts.

Councillors say the RDC should retract his statements and apologize for damaging the chairperson’s image before the community, while Kashare Sub-county Speaker Enid Kemigisha criticized the handling of the matter, saying such accusations should have been handled privately if credible.
