Police in Bushenyi District have arrested a 51-year-old man in connection with the death of his brother following a suspected assault.
The deceased, Patrick Tibayungwa, 42, a resident of Rwamabare Village in Bumbaire Sub-county, reportedly died on June 7, 2026, while being rushed to hospital for treatment.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Tibayungwa had allegedly been assaulted on several occasions by his brother, David Mugumya, who is also a resident of the same village.
Police said the matter was initially reported as an assault case on June 5, but was later upgraded to murder following the victim’s death.
The suspect was arrested and remains in custody, while the body was taken to Kitagata Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson SP Apollo Tayebwa confirmed the arrest and said investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death are ongoing.
