Kasese Confirms Death from Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever

By Obed Kithende

Kasese District has confirmed one death from Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF), involving a 48-year-old resident of Kitsutsu Village, Nyakiyumbu Sub-county in Bukonzo County West.

According to Kasese District Surveillance Focal Person Arafat Bwambale, the victim died over the weekend and was accorded a safe and dignified burial with support from the Uganda Red Cross.

Bwambale urged residents to remain vigilant by avoiding close contact with animals in living spaces, keeping livestock away from homes, and refraining from encroaching on national parks for hunting activities.

Bukonzo County East MP Dr. Julius Monday Bwambale Rude said CCHF should be taken seriously because it belongs to the same group of viral hemorrhagic fevers as Ebola. He also called on health workers to continue reassuring communities and addressing fear and misinformation.

Meanwhile, Kasese Deputy RDC for Bukonzo County, Lt. Maate Magwara, said the district has so far not registered any Ebola case, with all 31 samples collected from suspected cases testing negative.
