The minister of Local government Raphael Magezi has announced the resumption of nationwide enforcement of the trade order following a Cabinet decision reached on April 27, 2026.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Local Government, Cabinet approved the reinstatement of the directive, reversing last week’s suspension.

The enforcement had earlier been halted by David Bahati of the Ministry of Trade Industry and Cooperatives Uganda, who told the Parliament of Uganda that further consultations were needed.

However, in a letter dated April 28, 2026, the Local Government Ministry confirmed that implementation will now proceed nationwide as directed by Cabinet.

The ministry has since issued guidelines to Chief Administrative Officers, town clerks, and other local leaders to ensure an orderly business environment. These include relocating traders to designated spaces, removing campaign posters, enforcing proper food handling, maintaining clean markets, and strengthening law and order.
