Residents of Kitswamba Sub-county in Busongora North, Kasese District, have raised concern over the lack of clean water, linking it to rising cases of defilement, rape, and traffic accidents.

They say women and girls are forced to walk long distances often at night or early morning to fetch water, exposing them to sexual violence and road accidents.

In response, the Kasese District Local Government has launched the second phase of the Kendahi Solar Powered Water Supply System in Kitswamba Sub-county.

The project aims to improve access to safe water, particularly in Hima, Kitswamba, and Kihyo parishes, which face severe water shortages.

According to Senior Water Engineer Patrick Ndungo Syaipuma, the first phase cost over Shs793 million and focused on groundwater access, pumping systems, and limited distribution. The second phase, valued at over Shs645 million, will construct 20 public tap stands to boost water access to 52%.

District Chairperson Eliphaz Muhindi Bukombi assured residents that government is committed to extending safe water to underserved communities to prevent disease and improve livelihoods.
