The Late Abais Asiimwe

By Aggrey Twesigye

Police in Bushenyi have arrested seven suspects as investigations intensify into the alleged gruesome murder by burning of a well-known businessman.

The suspects, who are in detention, were apprehended in connection with the murder of Asiimwe Abias, 57, a resident of Kashenyi Ward and a prominent figure in the local trading community.

Sources allege that the deceased was last seen alive on April 18, 2026, at Kashenyi Trading Centre before leaving for a nearby lodge.

He failed to return home, prompting concerned relatives to file a missing person report at Kashenyi Police Station the following day.

The Greater Bushenyi Regional Police spokesperson, SP Apollo Tayebwa, said police responded swiftly and launched an extensive search.

Working with local residents, they later discovered a burnt, dismembered body believed to be that of Asiimwe on his rented property within a lodge compound.

The scene was examined and relevant exhibits recovered. Police arrested all the suspects, including the primary lessee, who are currently in custody assisting with investigations.

The body was taken to Kitagata Hospital Mortuary pending a postmortem examination as inquiries continue.
