Authorities in Rubaare Town Council have begun demolishing illegal structures erected within road reserves along the Ntungamo–Kabale Highway and other streets.

The operation, led by local council officials, is aimed at restoring order and enforcing urban planning regulations. It has seen the removal of informal roadside businesses, including food stalls, kiosks, containers, and other encroachments on public spaces.

Town Clerk Emmanuel Byamukama said the exercise is necessary to reclaim the town’s organized layout, commending traders who complied before the April 15, 2026 deadline.

He also urged owners of remaining temporary structures, such as pit latrines and makeshift shelters, to voluntarily remove them before enforcement teams take action.

However, the operation has raised concern among affected traders, many of whom report suffering financial losses.
