Katete emerges as epicenter of Mpox spread in Mbarara

Katete ward in Mbarara City south division has been identified as the epicentre of the Mpox virus spread in Mbarara City according to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital acting director, Dr.Deus Twesigye.

Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital has recorded 88 cumulative Mpox cases since October 16th, last year, with majority of these cases from the Katete ward, with 18 currently active and isolated in the hospital isolation unit.

During a press briefing at his office on Thursday, Dr. Deus Twesigye the hospital’s acting director highlighted the alarming spread within the area.

He narrated that while the ministry has already started vaccinating against Mpox in areas like Kampala, Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital has not yet received any vaccine consignment.

Dr Twesigye urged Ugandans to revive preservative measures such as hand washing, sanitizing and vigilance for symptoms which include skin rashes, sore throat, fever, body aches swollen lymph nodes and general body weakness.
