A tragic accident on the Rukungiri-Kihihi road in Rukungiri District has claimed the life of one person, while another remains in critical condition. The deceased, Nabasa Ndoshore, 38, a resident of Nyakinengo Cell, Bugangari Sub-county, was struck by a motorcycle while attempting to cross the road. The injured victim, Nawurira Erias, 23, a casual laborer from Rumira Cell, Bugangari Sub-county, was a passenger on the motorcycle.
According to police reports, the incident occurred at approximately 8:40 PM yesterday in Kakirago Cell, Bugangari Sub-county. The red Bajaj motorcycle, registered as UFW 472E, was traveling from Rukungiri Town toward Bikurungu when the rider, who is yet to be identified, struck Nabasa Ndoshore. The impact caused immediate fatal injuries to Ndoshore, while Nawurira Erias sustained severe injuries.
The motorcycle rider fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle, which was later recovered by authorities. Police, led by Kigezi Region spokesperson Elly Maate, responded to the scene, documented the wreckage, and took the motorcycle to Rukungiri Central Police Station for inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles.
A postmortem examination of the deceased was conducted at Rwakabengo Health Centre Mortuary, while Nawurira Erias remains under critical care at a local clinic.
Police are continuing their search for the rider, who remains at large.
