Police in Rukungiri District are actively investigating the murder of 48-year-old Katsigazi Erias, a shopkeeper and resident of Omukacundezi Village, Kisizi Parish, Nyarushanje Sub-county.
According to police reports, on the evening of Saturday, Katsigazi was at his shop, which also serves as the family’s residence. He had supper with his family around 9:30 PM before closing the shop and retiring to bed with his wife, Tumuhereze Pamela, and their children.
At approximately 11:00 PM, Pamela began calling out for help, prompting their child, Tukesiga Recub, to rush to the scene. He found his mother lying face down near the inner doorway, her hands loosely tied behind her back with a rope, and her face covered with a traditional cloth known as Ekitengye.
Pamela urged Tukesiga to check on his father. Upon entering the bedroom, he discovered Katsigazi lying in a pool of blood. Tukesiga immediately alerted neighbors, including Nuwagaba Adella, also known as Nalongo, who helped untie Pamela.
Police officers from Rubabo Police Station were alerted and quickly responded to the scene. After a thorough examination, investigators found no signs of forced entry or break-in, raising suspicions about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“The lack of forced entry raises serious concerns about what truly transpired. The account given by the victim’s wife, claiming that four individuals attacked them inside the house, appears inconsistent with the evidence,” said Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate on Monday.
Maate said that the scene was documented, and Katsigazi’s body was transported to Rwakabengo Health Centre III mortuary for a postmortem examination. He confirmed that Police have since arrested Tumuhereze Pamela to assist with ongoing investigations
