Police in Buhweju District are investigating the tragic incident in which a husband and wife were killed when massive rocks fell onto their home shortly after midnight on February 22, 2026, in Kogorogoro Village, Mutungo Parish, Nyakishana Sub-county.
The deceased have been identified as Gumisiriza Deus, 40, and his wife, Nyamwiza Evalyne.
According to the Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson, SP Apollo Tayebwa, officers responded promptly to the scene and found the couple dead. The area was examined and documented in line with standard police procedures.
Preliminary findings indicate that following earth tremors in the area, two large rocks rolled down from a nearby hill, smashed through the roof of the couple’s semi-permanent house, and landed on their bed, killing them instantly as they slept.
The couple’s six children, who were also inside the house at the time, escaped unhurt.
Postmortem results revealed that Nyamwiza died from severe chest injuries, while Gumisiriza sustained serious abdominal injuries and a badly fractured left arm.
The bodies were handed over to relatives for burial as investigations into the incident continue.
