Police in Rukiga District have arrested 21-year-old Musinguzi Silas, a security guard with Safe Tech Security Company, for allegedly shooting and killing 22-year-old herdsman Nabimanya Kendrick on Saturday night.

The shooting occurred around 9:30 PM in Kigara B Cell, Kamwezi Sub-county, when Musinguzi, stationed as a guard at Rukiga SACCO in Kamwezi, was walking with a woman along the Muhanga-Kamwezi road.

According to police reports, Kendrick, along with another herdsman identified only as Alias Owamahoro, followed the pair, seemingly attempting to identify the woman accompanying the security guard.

Musinguzi, reportedly provoked by Kendrick’s actions, turned and shot him, killing him instantly.

Witnesses alerted the police, and a team led by the Officer in Charge of Criminal Investigations (OC CID) Rukiga, along with the Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO), visited the scene.

They recorded statements and transported the body to Kamwezi Health Centre IV for a postmortem.

The suspect was arrested soon after the incident, and the weapon used in the shooting was recovered. It is currently pending forensic analysis.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, condemned the act, urging security personnel to exercise restraint and avoid resorting to violence in stressful situations. He reminded security officers that firearms should never be misused.

He confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that the suspect will be charged with murder and presented in court once the inquiry is complete.
