Rubanda police officer Critically Injured in Violent Motorcycle Robbery Attempt

Police in Rubanda District have launched a manhunt for unknown assailants who attacked and critically injured Detective Corporal Saturday Sebastian, 38, the Scenes of Crime Officer for the district, during an attempted motorcycle robbery.

The attack occurred in the early hours of Saturday at around 2:00 a.m. at Ihanga Trading Centre, located in Ihanga Parish, Bubaare Sub-county.

According to police reports, D/CPL Sebastian was riding a motorcycle—registration number UFZ 316X—on his way from Kabale Town to Rubanda Central Police Station when he was ambushed by two motorcycles, each carrying two machete-wielding men. The suspects attempted to forcefully take his motorcycle.

When Sebastian resisted and veered toward a nearby homestead seeking help, the attackers chased him down and violently assaulted him, inflicting multiple deep cuts to his head, arms, and shoulder.

The residents of the home intervened, forcing the assailants to flee the scene.

The injured officer was rushed to Rugarama Hospital by Good Samaritans and is currently receiving medical care.

Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed the incident and said that a team from Rubanda Central Police Station visited and documented the crime scene.

He appealed to members of the public to volunteer any information that could lead to the identification and arrest of the suspects, assuring that all efforts are being made to bring the perpetrators to justice.
