The surge in coffee prices has sparked a farming revolution in Kitagwenda District, with more farmers shifting to coffee cultivation to capitalize on the lucrative market.
Coffee cooperatives and traders report a significant rise in the number of farmers venturing into coffee production, particularly in Buhanda, Ntara, Nyabanni sub-counties, and Kitagwenda Town Council. Some farmers have even abandoned other crops in favor of coffee, drawn by its growing profitability.
Currently, clean Robusta coffee in Kitagwenda Town Council sells for between UGX 14,500 and UGX 15,000 per kilogram, while clean Arabica coffee fetches UGX 12,500 to UGX 13,000 per kilogram—markedly higher than previous years.
With prices continuing to rise, Kitagwenda farmers see coffee as a sustainable source of income, boosting both household earnings and the local economy.
