Mbarara City Police Commander, SP Kenneth Gumusiriza Kabwigo, has attributed the recent surge in road accidents within the city to the reckless behavior of Boda Boda riders.
Speaking on Tuesday at the launch of the FARAS Boda App at Independence Park, Kabwigo said efforts to streamline the motorcycle transport sector have so far yielded limited success.
He noted that motorcycles continue to account for a significant number of fatal road accidents across the country.
Kabwigo also raised concerns about criminal elements operating within the Boda Boda industry, citing incidents of theft and sexual assault—especially targeting female passengers during nighttime rides.
The launch event also featured remarks from Kasija Mudhafaru, representing the CEO of FARAS, who said the ride-hailing app is designed with the needs of the average Ugandan in mind.
He assured the public that FARAS will soon expand operations nationwide in a bid to enhance safety and efficiency in the transport sector.
Mbarara City Mayor, Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi, called on riders to embrace such technological innovations to professionalize their work.
Authorities hope that the adoption of digital ride-hailing tools will curb the rising accident rates and help restore order to urban transport.
