Police in Mbarara City have launched investigations into a suspected case of arson following a fire outbreak that destroyed property worth millions of shillings in Kisenyi on Wednesday afternoon.
According to SP Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Region Police spokesperson, the fire is believed to have started from a second-hand furniture workshop before spreading rapidly and gutting several items, including beds and chairs.
Kasasira said the police fire brigade responded immediately after receiving the alert but found that most of the property had already been destroyed by the time they arrived.
He added that firefighters managed to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby buildings and confirmed that no casualties were reported.
Kasasira further noted that investigations are underway to establish the actual cause of the fire and assess the extent of the damage.
