Police in the Kampala Metropolitan Area have arrested over 250 suspects in an operation aimed at combating crime and enhancing public safety.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Area Deputy Police Spokesperson, said the operation was conducted on 16 February 2026 in various parts of Wakiso District and Kampala.

Owoyesigyire said the operations were carried out in Nansana West Ward, Kyebando and Gganda in Wakiso Sub-county and Nansana Municipality; Kitukutwe Zone, Kiwologoma and Namugongo Nsawo Zone in Kira Municipality; Kyanja under Kira Road Policing Area; and selected black spots within the Central Business District of Kampala.

He explained that the areas had been identified as gathering points for individuals suspected of engaging in criminal activities affecting residents and the general public.

As a result of the operations, 65 suspects were arrested in Nansana and surrounding areas, 38 in Kira Municipality, 16 in Kyanja, and 136 suspects (134 males and two females) within the Central Business District.

In a statement released to the press on Tuesday morning, Owoyesigyire said the suspects were screened and charged with offences related to possession of suspected narcotic substances and other related crimes. They are currently detained at their respective police stations pending processing and court appearance.

Police also recovered exhibits of suspected narcotic substances during the operations.

He noted that the operations are part of ongoing efforts to eliminate criminal elements, dismantle criminal gathering points and ensure continued safety and security of the public.

Relatedly, similar operations conducted on Sunday night led to the arrest of 80 suspects. Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Rechael Kawala said the operation targeted identified hotspots, marijuana smoking points and black spots associated with simple robberies, paver attacks, drug abuse and other criminal activities.
