Lukia Nakalisa of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) has made history as the first woman mayor of Kabwohe–Sheema Municipality following her victory in the recent elections.
She was declared the winner by Sheema District Returning Officer Pius Ahimbisibwe after securing 12,492 votes. Nakalisa defeated independent candidate Moses Bishweko, who received 9,099 votes, while Bravo Tumusingize came third with 1,613 votes.
Nakalisa, who served as deputy mayor since 2021, pledged to prioritize infrastructure development during her tenure. She succeeds Abel Kahara, who did not seek re-election.
Meanwhile, in Bushenyi–Ishaka Municipality, incumbent mayor Richard Byaruhanga (NRM) was re-elected with 6,892 votes. He defeated independents Evarist Mucunguzi (3,525 votes) and Jackson Kamugasha (2,076 votes). Other candidates included Deo Ayebazibwe (NUP) with 172 votes, Guma Gumisiriza (PFF) with 116 votes, and Tumusiime Johnbosco (Independent) with 57 votes.
