Men in Ibanda District Reluctant to Use Condoms as Uganda Marks International Condom Day

By Ivan Mugisha

Residents of Ibanda District have been urged to actively promote safe and responsible sexual health practices as Uganda joined the rest of the world in marking International Condom Day.

International Condom Day is commemorated annually on February 13 to promote condom use as an effective way of preventing HIV, other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and unintended pregnancies. This year’s national celebrations were held in Fort Portal City under the theme “Just Use It.”

Juliet Kyomuhendo, a Health Inspector and HIV/Condom Focal Person, said the day plays a critical role in raising public awareness about personal health and HIV prevention.

She noted that although condoms are readily available in many health facilities, misuse and inconsistent use remain a challenge, reducing their effectiveness in preventing infections and unintended pregnancies.

Kyomuhendo called on residents, especially the youth, to seek accurate information on sexual and reproductive health and to make responsible decisions that protect their health and future.
