Police at Kasese Central Police Station have arrested a 45-year-old man, Deogratius Timbisimirwa, for allegedly illegally entering Queen Elizabeth National Park in Kasese District.
According to Rwenzori East Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime, the suspect, was apprehended yesterday at 3:00 PM.
He was found with a fishing basket in the protected area, a clear violation of the Uganda Wildlife Act.
Timbisimirwa is charged with illegal entry into a protected area under section 30 of the Uganda Wildlife Act.
The authorities have confirmed that investigations into the matter are underway, with police working to uncover further details about the incident.
The Queen Elizabeth National Park, one of Uganda’s most visited and ecologically rich parks, is a protected area, and such violations raise concerns about the safeguarding of the country’s natural heritage.
The police have urged the public to respect wildlife laws and remain vigilant against illegal activities within national parks.
As investigations continue, authorities are expected to take appropriate action in line with the law
