Kitagwenda Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Nicholus Nuwagira has halted construction work at Kanara Seed School in Kanara Sub-County, citing concerns over poor construction standards.

The decision follows a joint monitoring exercise conducted by district authorities and the Rwenzori Anti-Corruption Coalition (RAC), aimed at ensuring quality compliance at the construction site.

According to RDC Nuwagira, the inspection team found several issues, including the contractor’s use of sand dust without cement to lay blocks. Additionally, the team discovered that the blocks were being made manually, instead of using the required machine.

The Shs2.6 billion project, awarded to Skyworth Technology Service Limited in January 2023, involves the construction of six classroom blocks, an administration block, ventilated improved pit latrines, teachers’ houses, a kitchen, two science laboratories, a playground, a multipurpose hall, and an ICT library.

In a phone interview with Crooze FM, Ivan Ssewankambo, the director of Skyworth Technology Service Limited, refuted the allegations of shoddy work. He explained that the blocks found on-site had not yet been set and reassured the public that any poor-quality blocks would not be used in the construction.
