Security operatives in Kitagwenda District have arrested four individuals, including a district councilor, over the horrific murder of a four-year-old girl in what is suspected to be a ritual sacrifice.

The suspects include Levi Amarakutunga, a district councilor representing persons with disabilities in Kitagwenda District, along with three of his workers whose identities remain undisclosed.

The victim, Trinah Ainomugisha, was the daughter of Vincent Bagarukayo and Catherine Nyakato, residents of Kanyara Village, Kikondo Ward, in Kabujogera Town Council.

According to Kitagwenda District Police Commander (DPC) Bashir Bakulumpangi, the ordeal began on Sunday, March 16, 2025, when Trinah was sent by her mother to deliver Shs10,000 to a person who had requested it.

Tragically, she never returned home. After a night of searching with no success, Nyakato reported the disappearance at Kabujogera Town Council Police Post on Monday, March 17, 2025.

The case was later transferred to Kitagwenda Central Police Station, which deployed a canine unit to aid in the search.

The police dog led officers to Nyakagezi Cell, where Trinah’s lifeless body was found abandoned in a farm. Further tracking led investigators to Amarakutunga’s residence, where officers reportedly discovered blood-stained evidence, prompting the immediate arrest of the councilor and his three workers.

Upon hearing the shocking news, enraged residents stormed Amarakutunga’s farm, destroying his banana plantation and slaughtering four of his cows in retaliation. The situation escalated, forcing police to intervene swiftly and prevent further destruction.

Police says investigations are still on going.
