Ibanda District has today launched the distribution of 50,000 coffee seedlings to farmers under the Ibanda Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union.
The seedlings were provided by the Ministry of Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries following a request by district leaders to support 17 cooperative societies.
According to District Production Officer Peter Bwengye, about 20,862 acres of land in Ibanda are under coffee cultivation, producing 14,381 tonnes annually and generating approximately UGX 178 billion in revenue.
He added that over 38,402 households—about 58% of the district’s population—are engaged in the coffee value chain.
