Farmers in the Kigezi subregion are facing the harsh realities of climate change, with unpredictable rainfall and prolonged droughts severely affecting agricultural productivity.

Depleted soil nutrients, declining crop yields, and growing food insecurity have left many struggling to sustain their livelihoods.

Environmental degradation, fueled by deforestation and unsustainable farming practices, has further worsened the situation.

Rising temperatures and increasingly harsh farming conditions pose a significant threat to the region’s agricultural output.

Experts are sounding the alarm, warning that without immediate intervention, the situation will deteriorate further. A recent Climate Risk Profile for Uganda, published by GIZ, highlights the country’s limited capacity to adapt in the agricultural sector.

The report emphasizes the urgent need for farmers to adopt climate-smart agricultural practices to mitigate the impacts of climate change.

With proper support from the government and relevant stakeholders, farmers in Kigezi can build resilience against the worsening climate crisis and secure their food supply for the future.
