Police in Ntungamo District have arrested a 36-year-old agricultural officer in connection with the suspected murder of his wife following a late-night incident earlier this week.
The suspect, Tayebwa Rodgers, is an agricultural officer attached to Rukoni and Rwoho Town Councils. He was taken into custody over the death of his wife, Akampurira Racheal (33), a Town Agent for Rukiga Central Ward in Mpora Town Council, Rukiga District.
The incident occurred on February 9, 2026, at around 10:30 p.m.
According to Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson SP Samson Kasasira, the couple was riding a motorcycle to Rubaare Town Council when they were allegedly attacked by unknown assailants at Omungyenyi Katinda Bridge in Kyamugashe, Rwemiyaga Ward, Kakukuru Rwenanura Town Council.
Rodgers told police that a group armed with sticks attacked them, killing his wife, while he escaped to seek help. He further claimed that the attackers stole his motorcycle and other personal belongings.
Police later recovered Racheal’s body from beneath the bridge culverts and transported it to Itojo Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
However, SP Kasasira said preliminary investigations have raised doubts about Rodgers’ account. Police established that the couple reportedly had ongoing domestic disputes, and Rodgers was found without injuries, despite claiming to have survived a violent attack.
Rodgers remains in police custody as investigations continue into his possible involvement in the murder and the circumstances surrounding the alleged robbery.
