National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has sent his condolences to the families of pupils from King David Junior School in Ndejje who died in a road crash during a study tour in Kapchorwa District.
In a message shared on Friday, Kyagulanyi said he was deeply saddened by the loss of at least 20 children and the school’s proprietor.
“Very, very saddened by the death of at least 20 little children in an accident that occurred last night in Kapchorwa, Eastern Uganda. They had gone for a tour organized by King David Junior School in Ndejje. One cannot imagine how broken their parents are by this tragedy that also claimed the school owner’s life. Rest peacefully, little angels. My deepest condolences to your families, classmates, teachers, and all schools across Uganda who share in the pain of this devastating loss. And a quick recovery to the survivors. May God strengthen everyone affected by this tragedy.”
The crash occurred as the pupils were returning from an educational trip in Kapchorwa. Several other people were injured and are receiving treatment, while authorities continue to investigate the cause of the accident.
Meanwhile, Acting Education Minister Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo has suspended all school educational tours across Uganda following the fatal bus crash.
Dr. Muyingo said the suspension takes immediate effect and will remain in force pending comprehensive investigations into the cause of the accident and a review of the safety measures governing school study tours.
The Ministry of Education and Sports said the decision is intended to allow authorities to assess existing safety protocols and implement measures to better protect learners during educational trips.
