Authorities in Ibanda District, have demarcated Kabobo Wetland in an effort to curb human encroachment and restore the fragile ecosystem.
The exercise led by the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Godfrey Mbetegyereize and Elly Kilya the District Natural Resources Department, involved placing concrete pillars to mark a 30-metre buffer zone from the wetland boundary.
Kabobo Wetland, located in Igorora Town Council, has suffered severe degradation in recent years due to human activities including grazing, brick laying, and cultivation.
Speaking during the demarcation, District Natural Resources Officer Elly Kilya said the intervention is intended to reverse environmental damage and safeguard the wetland for future generations.
Kilya added that the clearly marked boundaries will help communities understand the limits of the wetland and enable authorities to enforce conservation regulations more effectively.
Ibanda RDC Godfrey Mbetegyereize urged community members to respect the newly demarcated buffer zones, saying environmental protection is a shared responsibility.
