Presidential candidate for the Forum for Democratic Change [FDC]Nathan Nandala Mafabi has pledged to reduce taxes on basic household commodities and introduce large-scale investments to combat poverty if elected president.
While campaigning on Tuesday in Ibanda District, Mafabi told residents that many Ugandans are struggling under what he called a “growing economic burden,” driven largely by the high cost of essential goods.
He criticized the government for imposing heavy taxes on basic items such as sugar and bar soap, arguing that these levies have pushed prices beyond the reach of ordinary families.
Mafabi said easing taxes on such commodities would offer immediate relief to households and help improve living standards.
He also promised to prioritize investments aimed at creating jobs and raising household incomes, noting that poverty remains a persistent challenge across the country.
